Amazing Amethyst 2017-01-26T18:02:17+00:00

The meaning and beliefs behind Amethyst

When it comes to precious gems, amethyst is one of the positivity powerhouse gems. It is the birthstone for Pisces and the month of February, and the gemstone for the 6th wedding anniversary. Because of it’s purple color it’s long been considered a royal gem and has been used in crown jewels from England to ancient Egypt.
The name amethyst derives from the ancient Greek word amethustos, meaning sober. It was said that an amethyst could prevent the bearer from becoming excessively drunk and also instills a sober and serious mind. It was believed to also ward off guilt, self deception, and bestows good judgment.
In the Chinese philosophy of Feng Shui, the amethyst enhances the wealth corner focusing on the giving and receiving of material wealth. In traditional Chinese medicine, amethyst is prescribed for stomach pains, bad dreams, healing of illnesses of the lungs and is believed to help detoxify and cleanse the body. Some also believe they help people who suffer from a faulty memory. Amethyst is associated with the crown chakra at the top of the head where divine essence enters.
If placed beneath a pillow or worn to bed, it supposedly drives off insomnia and nightmares and produces a peaceful sleep with pleasant, healing, and often prophetic dreams. It is said to calm fears, raise hopes, lift the spirits, and promote thoughts of the spiritual reality behind our lives. It calms emotional storms and in situations of potential danger, it will come to your aid. It also lends courage and is a powerful amulet for travelers. Worn, it protects against thieves, harm, sickness, and danger. It is also said to help promote internal balance and harmony and bring stability to the wearer as well as raise one’s spirits, promoting self assurance and confidence.
I just love the beautiful color of amethyst most of all. Every piece I design is meant to hold an intention, so whether you choose to believe in any of the amethyst’s meanings and spiritual purposes or not, it’s a beautiful stone to adorn your hand, ears, neck or wrist for any occasion.
